Ooooooh I love Christmas! It really is the most wonderful time of the year. I go in full pelt with Christmas films, songs, jingly earrings, mulled wine and stupid jumpers – it just puts me in the most wonderful mood! I mentioned on Twitter that I was going to tag myself in the Christmas Tag as I will take any excuse to start talking about the festive season, but then That Gent Mark officially tagged me and now I pretty much have to!
1. What is your favourite Christmas Movie/s?
Scrooged is definitely my favourite Christmas movie, followed closely by Home Alone and Miracle on 34th Street (the remake, if I’m honest). I remember watching Scrooged on TV years ago and not knowing what it was called but we were reunited on a more permanent basis when I found it in Sainsbury’s for £3 last year! I love Christmas movies so much that me and AJ are going to the Prince Charles Cinema’s Christmas Film Pyjama Party – an all-nighter off festive films on 6th December. I can’t wait!
2. Do you open your presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning?
My sister and I are always given a pair of pyjamas on Christmas Eve to open so we can wear them on Christmas morning (or onesies like the ones we’re beautifully modelling below!). All other presents are poked and shook and sniffed in a desperate attempt to guess what’s inside until we can open them in the morning.
3. Do you have a favourite Christmas memory?
I remember waking up on Christmas morning 1995 and seeing my stocking and having my faith in Santa being 100% restored. My mum was in hospital with my newly born baby sister and as far as I was concerned, she was the only person who could possibly prepare my stocking otherwise. As it turns out, my stepdad had extremely strict instructions on how to prepare said stocking so I wouldn’t smell a rat, and I had the added bonus of getting to see my shiny new sibling that day too!
4. Favourite festive food?
Give me all the goose fat roast potatoes. One Christmas my mum threw the leftover ones away and I was devastated as I regularly go back to the fridge and eat the cold ones as a snack.
5. Favourite Christmas gift?
I’m always completely spoiled on Christmas Day so I couldn’t possibly pick. Last year my favourite gift was my DVF x Harley Viera-Newton Cat Headphones.
6. Favourite Christmas scent?
I love the smell (and taste!) of mulled wine. I like to make my own in the slow cooker (as in the photo below) and serve it up in big mugs with a slice of orange and a cinnamon stick.
7. Do you have any Christmas Eve traditions?
My family have a tradition of getting KFC on Christmas Eve! My mum doesn’t want to cook (obviously) and we all just want to chill out and watch TV and play board games, so a takeaway is the only option. Over the years it just became a given that it would be a KFC!
8. What tops your tree?
Another tradition in my family is for me to put the angel on top of the tree. There are photos of my stepdad lifting me up to perform this task but obviously now I don’t need much help! Since I moved out of home my mum will just take the angel off the tree on the day I come back so I can ceremoniously put it back up there! My little sister will always be the one who puts together the nativity scene too.
9. As a kid what was the one (crazy, wild, extravagant) gift you always asked for but never received?
Every year as a kid you always want something crazy, don’t you? I repeatedly asked for a pet but was never allowed. And I would’ve loved an Easy Bake Oven but I have one on a t-shirt and a real oven of my own so I certainly didn’t miss out!
10. What’s the best part about Christmas for you?
Spending at least two full days with my parents and sister. We basically lock ourselves away and are completely anti-social with everyone except each other. We eat and drink too much, watch crap TV and play a stupid amount of board games. Love it!
Let me know in the comments if you decide take part in the Christmas tag!
