There’s going to be a million things online this week reporting back on the hottest new trends from London Fashion Week. As much as I love reading through all these and pinning every look I love, I don’t base my purchases on what is ‘in season’ and as a result I often end up embracing a trend far too late. Enter: the denim pinafore dress.

I’d been admiring these from afar for a while, but every one I tried was either too short or too A-line, making me look frumpy and old. When I took a random detour into Dorothy Perkins a few weeks ago, I wasn’t looking for this. I mean, I wasn’t looking for anything really, but clearly it was meant to be. It has pockets and a cinched waist which are two things I love in a dress but struggle to find.

Pale denim says summer, but lord knows I love me a high neck and that helps me take this outfit right into autumn. I’m pretty sure 75% of the tops I own fit in this category, but they’re just so versatile! Wear them tucked into jeans, or high waisted skirts, and if I’ve been going to the gym I might even brave a cropped one (but that’s pretty rare at the moment!).

I’ve been waiting for the perfect outfit to wear this bag with and this was spot on. Let’s be honest, it’s not a serious outfit as such. I wore it out for lunch with the girls followed by a wander around Shoreditch and when I’d put my big clumpy sandals on to leave the house, I quickly ran back up to my room to switch bags and take this adorable out for the first time. Having bought it in Hong Kong in April, it was about time!

With the weather now taking a massive turn, I’m thinking this particular dress will be paired with a jumper underneath, big chunky socks and heeled boots. No, PLATFORM boots. YES. Watch this space!
